what water prep do you use?
« on: June 25, 2010, 02:53:59 PM »
I read "somewhere" that sometimes foam/bubbles aren't caused by DOC's but can sometimes be caused by the type of water prep you are using to decholorinate, etc.  I have noticed over the past few weeks, that AFTER I do a water change, the foam/bubbles are worse.  Some times I had none and then all of the sudden its a mess.  I'm wondering if it's just the brand I'm using (Laguna water prep).  Are there certain ones you recommend or prefer?

Foam can also be caused by a recent spawn, too much protein (in food and from spawn) and yes, some additives, such as liquid bacterial helpers.  I use PondCare's Chlorine and Heavy Metal Neutralizer when I do a WC or add enough fresh water to top off that it needs dechlor, but have never noticed any foaming afterward.

When you add your dechlor do you only add enough for the water you replace, or for the entire pond?
