The Kio are digging out all the dirt out of the pots

The kio are digging all the dirt out of the pond plants and there is a film of dirt all over everthing and every time we get it cleaned up they stir everything back up.  We had gravel on the top of the pots but they have managed to removed it.  They have been spawning, like crazy.  Please help!!!!.  The pond is a mess.  We have three biofilters and a skimmer and it is impossible to keep up with at the dirt.

I put larger rocks on it, more like river rock and gravel they aren't able to move those. I think the gravel the koi just pick up in their mouths and spit out.

They have removed everything we have tried pea gravel , river rock, kitty liter, aqua soil, slate, and they dig out everything.  The plants are doing well since they are in the water and have good root systems but these kio are going crazy this year.

you just have nosey koi! I had heard someone tried the wire hanging baskets over the pots and it kept the koi out (of course you have to have bigger koi for that).

I tried every other way and now I just accept it. Every time I put in new potted plant, I just wait they do their thing and later the water becomes clear again. Actually, when the plant is a strong one, the soil around the roots stay and good enough for the plant. But when it is a small, young plant, next hour it starts floating on the water. I hate to see rhizomes/tubers, swimming here and there. So I started using a kiddy pond to grow the young plants.

You've got to do what I did...build another pond just for the lilies.  My koi have their own pond and I don't have to worry about my lilies.
