Sodium Thiosulfate

Is anyone uisng Sodium Thiosulfate to treat chlorine?
Amazon has 2.25lb of it for about $20 with shipping but it is intended for pools. The label says "ingredients :Sodium Thiosulfate".  Should treat about 80,000 gallons.

Warning:  If you have chloramines instead of chlorine using Sodium Thiosulfate will release ammonia at potentially toxic levels.

It's one of the most commonly used chemicals used for dechlorination. Very safe to use.  It does increase ammonia content as it reacts with chloramines used by many cities to treat drinking water.  Here's a link to some information on using it in aquaria and ponds.

I am asking if anyone here is using it rather then buying commercial water conditioners like prime.  My motivation for asking is that I have the feeling that paying for the commercial water conditioners is waste of money unless you have a slime coat problem.

When topping off the big pond I do not bother with any form of treatment.  I just place the house in the water churned up by the aireation so the fish can  not stick their noses into it.

I use it all the time for my koi pond.  I get it from Aquatic Ecosystems - 5 pounds lasts a very long time even for my fairly large pond.

I order mine from someone at KP that buys it in bulk & then resells in smaller quantities.   I keep enough around that I don't need to order more for at least a couple of years but then I don't do huge water changes for my lilies ponds, just the watonai pond.
