how many gallons is your pond?  what are you going to stock it with?  Koi, GF or both?

I'm no expert but from everything I've learned I understand that Bead filters are great for the final stage in a 2 or 3 stage filtration system to filter out the "fines."   I know the mfr's market them to be bio filters, but they're really not. 

And you will definitely want something before the bead to get most of the big stuff or you're going to be cleaning that bead daily (assuming you'll have a fish and plant load).  They clog easily.

I'm going to use a 65 gal stock tank with a static pre-filter for my SC.  This is my set up (all DIY).  http://www.americanponders.com/forum/index.php?topic=1579.0. 

Also, it is recommended to put the skimmer on a separate circuit but that cost more money to purchase and run a 2nd pump.  I was originally going to run my skimmer on the same circuit with the BD but decided to separate it.  I already have 2 pumps so $ wasn't an issue.

sorry, didnt see your other thread.  Most replies there are similar to what I suggested also.

I will be doing BDs and TPRs in my watergarden/fish pond.  The reason is to have as much of the debris get out through the BD as possible. 

It's going to be the best (or may end up being the worst) of both worlds.   {:-P;;
