A few pics of construction of pond 1
« on: April 24, 2007, 05:55:10 PM »
I'm in the middle of compiling a scrapbook to show how the garden has evolved over the last few years.  Anyway, I thought I'd share the bit about the construction of the larger pond.  My intention was to create a 'natural' looking pond to blend in with the surroundings; therefore there are no filters, although I did use a liner and there are air bricks.  Over the past 3 years it has maintained a good natural balance (famous last words - touch wood ::)).  I can never remember the measurements, but it slopes from 3-5ft deep.  As for the fish, there are just a few mutts that I am rather fond of:

Fabulous job of getting the grass right to the waters' edge.

Still am amazed at your view - what looks like miles of rolling countryside is actually a 'wall' holding back a river.

How was Spain?

Cheers,

Mike

Well Mike... Spain was no holiday!!!  I have a desk job, and over the years, my fitness levels have gone drastically down hill.  My niece asked me to demonstrate a 'sit-up' and I confess that I couldn't manage it (mega embarrassing).  Anyway... once you notice you can't do something... I discovered there were zillions of other things I struggle to do.  So... I went to something like a 'boot-camp' for 8 weeks.

I reckon I was there all of 10 minutes before my dignity was left in tatters :o.  The initial fitness assessment test was nasty... I almost collapsed after 5 minutes on the cross-trainer thing!!!  Anyway... we did a 3 mile brisk walk before breakfast, then circuit training, which was a killer... after lunch we did pilates and aqua-robics followed by the most wonderful full body massage O0.

Every day for the first 2 weeks, the aches and pains were dreadful... then suddenly, everything became much easier.  Each morning, the personal trainer would increase the pace / effort required :'(.

The physical stuff was nowhere near as bad as the coffee detox... I never realised it was such a strong drug.  Although I still have 2 coffees a day, now I mostly drink mint tea... a taste I acquired whilst out there.

As for the grass edging around the pond... it is playing up ::).  Some areas have shrunk back slightly, so exposing the liner (as well as looking ugly).  I am currently thinking of introducing some pond side plants to break things up or returf.

Hope you are keeping well Mike.

luvmyasagis - I chase that bleeding heron away almost on a daily basis >:(-

That is stunning.  Love the lush green grass, it really makes the pond stand out.  It gives it a nice clean look.  Nice pic of the dirty bird, and your view is beautiful.

Kim

Ponds are like patato chips, ya just can't have one.

Your yard is amazingly beautiful. I love your view too. Your time in Spain sounds interesting indeed. It sounds like something I need to do. I can't imagine giving up my coffee. I won't be able to get out of bed without it.

Your pond is just beautiful.  I love the before and after pictures.  Wish we would have done that.  The view is wonderful and the grass so green.

As for the trip to Spain, I definitely need something like that, but doubt that I could stick it out ;D

I did recently kick the caffeine.  Was having trouble with heartburn and it helped a lot.
