How Do You Add a LOT of Water, Without Hurting the Fish With Chlorine?

Because my new pond is now tinged brown because of the oak tree pollen that fell the week after I filled it, and because I'm thinking of reducing the amount of salt, thanks to the "Why" thread, I am thinking of draining half of my pond, and refilling it with clean new water.

Thie will mean adding 500 or more gallons. 

I don't want to drain all the water and catch the fish to put them in temporary quarters.  So, if the fish are still in the pond, how do I add those 500 new gallons?  Can you put the hose in there, and periodically toss in some Chlor-Out?  That would also cause a temperature change.

Or must you do it 5 gallon bucket at a time, treating each bucket as you add it?  This would be slow enough that the fish could probably adjust to the change in temperature with each bucketful.

I routinely (once a week) change 50% or more of the water in my pond.  I drain the water and then add the amount of dechlorinator I need to handle all the new water.  Then I fill it with tap water.  If there is a big difference in temperature I fill very slowly to decrease the temperature swing for the fish.  It is probably a good idea to add the water as slowly as you can regardless to allow your biofilter to handle the increase ammonia load resulting from breaking the chloramine bond.

I do water changes pretty frequently, too.  I pump out what I need to and add a bit of dechlor near the fountain or some place where the water is being churned up.  I add the water with the sprinkler or with the "rain" attachment that I use to water the flowers.  The more the water is exposed to air, the faster the chlorine is removed.

Depending on how paranoid you are, you might want to verify the chlorine content first. If you treat a pond for .02% chlorine, and then it ends up being 2% - you won't have added enough dechlor.
Sometimes the water systems "burp" a slug of chlorine, particularly in the Spring when the City is cleaning its lines.

Instead of "toss and fill", you may be better treated if you build a mixer. All it takes is a five gallon bucket, and a pipe (ok, also the fittings)... You put the sodium thiosulfate (I like the crystals) in the bucket, and agitate as you add water. The mixing proceeds at about the same pace as the dissolving, and then the treated water overflows through your pipe into the pond.
Its crude, and not an even mix, the first bit will have more de-chlor than the last bit. But its more even that "toss and fill".
